Project Details
Scope of Work
- Construction of Gateshead No. 1 Wastewater Pump Station;
- Upgrade of existing Windale No. 2 Wastewater Pump Station;
- Construction of over 1.05km of 450mm and 600mm diameter DICL sewer rising main;
- Construction of 200m of 450mm diameter GRP gravity main duplication;
- Underbores for rising main under Pacific Highway and swamp schlerophyl forest;
- Aerial crossing of existing creek and drainage culvert.
Significant Achievements
- Highly planned shutdowns and very tight timeframes for sewer main connections, minimising disruption to HWC customers;
- Extensive sheet piling works, and substantial structural concrete thrust blocks;
- Overcame extremely difficult site access problems, as a large portion of the site was land-locked between the swamp schlerophyl forest, existing industrial properties and the Pacific Highway;
- Two significant underbores, including an 85m long bore under the Pacific Highway which negotiated a complex network of existing services;
- Excellent environmental performance with positive recognition from HWC for tree/vegetation management, erosion and sediment controls, dust suppression and maintaining water quality in adjacent creeks.
