Scope of Work
- Construct signalised intersection onto Maitland Road to RTA standards
- Deceleration lanes added to existing road N/B and S/B
- Reconstruct 600m of Sparke Street including part realignment across wetlands
- Construct isolated U Turn facility under Hexham bridge
- Fill of wetlands for N/B deceleration lane and substation site
Significant Achievements
- Maitland Road, Hexham is Newcastle’s highest volume road
- Traffic management was a critical aspect of the project and was completed with no incidents
- Changes to traffic control measures and some of the critical road works were undertaken on a night shift
- Widened road for northbound deceleration lane was constructed over many services with some protection slabs and some alterations necessary
- Part of the Maitland Road widening, reconstructed Sparke Street and a pad for a new substation were constructed over wetlands with lightweight fill to minimise settlements
- Works were undertaken under a private developers Works Authorisation Deed with the RTA and we assisted the Client in this process including a design coordination role to get drawings and specifications to RTA and Council approval
