Scope of Work
Daracon implemented environmental control measures as well as works which included clearing, stripping and site preparation for filling, preload foundation, fill and compact and concrete structures.
Significant Achievements
- Kooragang Island had a number of very sensitive environmental aspects that required careful management
- Before construction could begin Daracon’s personnel were involved in the careful adjustment of wetland habitat and the relocation of fauna that was threatened by the proposed work. This included snakes, frogs and birds that inhabited the site
- The site extended for 1.5 km but was only narrow and required complex traffic control to ensure that the convoy of incoming material was neither interrupted nor caused undue hazards
- Select material was sourced from a number of suppliers then processed through two of Daracon’s pugmills to ensure consistency
- PWCS and Bechtel made safety of personnel their highest priority, believing that safe sites are the most productive. Daracon was chosen in part because of its similar commitment and performance
