Scope of Work

Significant Achievements
- Contract started out as a lump sum but developed into a cost plus due to excellent performance in time and quality of work. This cost plus approach allowed BHP Billiton the flexibility to control the workforce and change the critical path to suit their different needs.
- Safety is of prime importance not only because of the work being on an operational coal mine but due to the number of separate contractors who are working on the site.
- All plant used on site complies with the mine’s 103 standard.
- The natural material was variable in quality and was often found to contain excessive moisture making it very difficult to manage.
- The work adjoined a major public road and although this provided constant public scrutiny of the site there were no complaints or adverse comments made about Daracon’s performance.
- The concrete spillway and terraced gabion walls is an attractive feature of the design and can be easily seen from Denman Road.
- The site was protected from flooding before dam construction commenced by installing a series of diversion banks and drains. This also helped to keep the poorer material as dry as possible.
