Significant Achievements
- A complex project with many innovative design elements was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.
- Zoned embankments enabled poorer quality material to be used as bulk fill that was progressively contained within a select material envelope. Control of moisture was a critical element during embankment construction.
- Crossing a section of swamp presented settlement problems and was addressed by accelerated loading of the site and installation of Wick Drains.
- As a SEPP 14 wetland, the swamp also presented a significant environmental constraint that required strict adherence to work methods and constant vigilance to avoid any impacts. Also permanent chemical traps were installed to intercept any spillage from the road and prevented contamination. of waterways.
- An Aboriginal Conservation Area was established adjacent to one carriageway to preserve relics that had been found and work methods were designed to ensure that the area was not disturbed by construction activity.
- The project had a major traffic interface at each end and with local roads at Stockrington Road, Cedar Hill Drive and Blackhill Road, which crossed the freeway corridor. Traffic management plans were under constant review and amendment to suit the public’s needs.
- The northern connection at John Renshaw Drive was a critical area with a major intersection, high traffic flow and access to adjoining industrial sites. Sophisticated Traffic Management Plans were designed to accommodate frequent traffic changes and night work.
- Our safety record was excellent
- Community relations issues that originated both locally and from the Aboriginal Land Council were handled well by Daracon’s project team and no issues were left outstanding at the end of the work.
- Access to all parts of the project was restricted for some time by bridgework, which was in a separate contract. Daracon fostered good relations with the bridge contractor and work by both contractors in the interface area progressed smoothly.
