Project Details
Scope of Work
- Design and construct 6km access road
- Major road junction with Denman Road
- Concrete structures
- Bridge approaches and abutments
Significant Achievements
- Design and construct principal mine entrance road across Hunter River flood plain
- Included sophisticated traffic staging and management plans
- The route crossed the main northern railway at grade and special consideration had to be given to continuity of rail services
- Seven operational dairy farms were affected by the road requiring daily arrangements for the movement of cattle
- Denman Road intersection was fully constructed under traffic
- The Hunter River had to be fully protected from pollution throughout construction
- The deadline for the road opening was governed by the arrival date for heavy mining equipment and so made no allowance for extensions for any reason
- Stringent environmental constraints were in place as the development had been through a Commission of Enquiry. Adjoining pastoral and vineyard interests had been resisting the development and strict limits on pollution were in place to protect these valuable enterprises
