Bengalla Mine Access Road

Design and construct principal mine entrance road across Hunter River flood plain
Included sophisticated traffic staging and management plans
The route crossed the main northern railway at grade and special consideration had to be given to continuity of rail services
Seven operational dairy farms were affected by the road requiring daily arrangements for the movement of cattle
Denman Road intersection was fully constructed under traffic
The Hunter River had to be fully protected from pollution throughout construction
The deadline for the road opening was governed by the arrival date for heavy mining equipment and so made no allowance for extensions for any reason
Stringent environmental constraints were in place as the development had been through a Commission of Enquiry. Adjoining pastoral and vineyard interests had been resisting the development and strict limits on pollution were in place to protect these valuable enterprises
