Significant Achievements
- Carry out detail excavation and earthworks to the design site levels (400,000m3)
- Undertake major drainage works open drains (1050 m) and box culvert structures (390 m)
- Pavement cap compromised:
1. A select layer of site won material, a crushed concrete layer and a two coat seal (184,000m2)
2. A 500mm thick VENM capping layer from imported low permeability material (80,000m3)
- The establishment and operation of an on-site precast yard to make
96 x twin-cell precast concrete box culvert units (each 5m x 4m x 2.6m weighing approx. 50t)
- Careful control of fugitive emissions to ensure that dust and stormwater did not pollute the adjoining Hunter River
- An extensive system of dewatering was deployed to ensure dry working conditions, an integrated system of spears and deep wells points connected to suction pumps via twin 225mm was maintained during construction. At its peak a total of 28 well-point pumps were deployed at any one time
