Westpac Rescue Helicopter Base

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Base at Broadmeadow is another benefactor of Daracon’s efforts to give back to the Hunter community. Between May and November 2008 we provided all of the civil works for the new building pad, car parks and drainage. All the work was done at cost or better.

The entire project was delivered whilst the building works were taking place and required co-operation with the builders, whilst always maintaining access for ambulances to the landing zone of the helicopters.

The new building is now complete and operating. It has improved communication, streamlined operations and increased security at the Base. They are able to provide expanded training facilities for the pilots and crew and their emergency service partners, the Ambulance Service of NSW, Police and Fire. The building has also expanded and improved pilot and crew accommodation for the 24 hour Base.

 Aboriginal Participation

Daracon Group also recognises that aboriginal participation in civil construction projects provides benefits to all stakeholders at both project and enterprise levels.  So where opportunities exist, we are pleased to implement strategies that have positive social, economic and regional benefits to aboriginal communities.

We have an excellent record for involving indigenous communities in our projects and have fostered cooperative relationships with several Local Aboriginal Land Councils (LALC) particularly in the Lower Hunter Valley e.g.

  • Mindaribba LALC - F3 Freeway, Holmwood Business Park, Awabakal LALC (Mr Ron Gordon)
  • Marylands residential developments - Worimi LALC (Mr Len Anderson)
  • Tomago to Nelson Bay water pipeline - Tanilba Bay residential development
